What are the functions of the Throat Chakra?
When the throat chakra is functioning properly, you will understand when to speak and when to listen. It is the chakra that stimulates your creativity and self-expression in all forms. Althought painting, photography, and other forms of art are non-verbal, the ability to create is connected to expression, which is a function of the throat chakra.
When this area is functioning optimally, you’re confident in sharing your ideas because you're comfortable with who you are. You have the ability to express yourself clearly to get the most positive impact from your thoughts and ideas. You do not worry about being ridiculed or ignored.
You appreciate and see your own value and are not apprehensive about being open and communicative with others. If you are at all psychic, the throat chakra is what gives you the ability to hear voices or sounds from other dimensions. The ability to do this is called clairaudience.
We often say we are ‘choked up’ or ‘at a loss for words’. When the throat chakra is in alignment, you will not struggle expressing emotions, even difficult ones.
Where is the Throat Chakra?
Just like its name describes, the energy is in your throat. It’s found along the cervical curve of the vertebrae in your neck.
What Color represents the Throat Chakra?
The throat chakra resonates with the color blue. Most shades of blue, apart from the darkest indigo, will balance this energy center
Blue is soothing and restorative, and known to be a calming and healing color. Using healing crystals and precious gemstones in these hues will enhance energetic balance.
Symptoms of an Overactive Throat
When the throat chakra is overactive it manifests as being too communicative. You may talk too much or too loudly or have a habit of interrupting others. You probably fear that you won’t be heard so you overcompensate by being verbally-aggressive, larger than life, pushy, or domineering.
Practice quietly speaking your truth then wait for others to finish what they are saying, truly hearing their message. Keep in mind, people often listen only to plan what to say next.  Learn how to truly hear what others are sharing with you then repeat the important parts back to them, so they know they’ve been understood. This gives them a chance to correct you if you heard something incorrectly, or to share more of what’s on their mind. Good communication is always equal give and take.
Using Aquamarine and Blue Lace Agate will help you to restore balance to an overactive throat chakra.
Symptoms of an Underactive Throat
When the throat chakra is underactive, you’ll have trouble forming your thoughts into words. You may be shy or think that no one wants to hear what you have to say. Your creativity may be stifled or you constantly question your value. You allow others talk over you or take credit for your ideas.
To bring your throat chakra back into balance, you'll have to take control of situations by speaking up. Learn how to say ‘no’ to what doesn’t resonate with you or letting people coerce you into situations that make you feel uncomfortable.
Speak your truth and thoughts then assess the situation to see if you’ve been heard. Remove yourself from associations where people take you for granted.
